Group Media Director

At Bensimon Byrne, we’re looking for a dynamic Group Media Director to lead our media group that drives media innovation and inspires strategic excellence. This role combines advanced media expertise and human understanding to deliver bespoke, insight-driven solutions that deliver against clients’ objectives. As a thought leader, the Group Media Director is on the pulse of the latest tech and trends. They play a key role in future-proofing the agency’s offerings, driving agency-wide integration and external reputation.

You are

  • Be the senior thought leader across all key accounts to drive positive outcomes that deliver on our clients’ objectives. This includes developing a deep understanding of clients’ business, audience, challenges and opportunities to lead and oversee development of bespoke media strategies and plans as well as consistent performance analysis and optimization.

  • Mentor and develop a high-performing media team, fostering a collaborative, curious and growth-oriented environment. Be accountable for the overall engagement, retention and bench strength of your team. Manage assignment and project allocation to support balancing when needed.

  • Oversee department financial health ensuring profitability and growth. This includes keen oversight of media campaign budgets; working with planning team to ensure campaigns are delivered within budget and on target. It also includes identifying growth opportunities and successfully leading new business pitches

  • Build the agencies reputation for media excellence. This requires leadership in understanding of industry best practices, tools (research, digital platforms, etc.) and trends within the agency. Externally, it may include representing the agency through industry events, publications, and innovative contributions.

  • Be an active leader in agency revenue, reputation and retention through participation with peers in regular leadership discussions. Keep agency executive team informed, proactively identify problems, execute solutions and ask for executive support as needed.

Desired skills and experience

  • Proven expertise in strategic media planning across traditional and digital platforms, with a track record of delivering innovative, effective solutions.

  • Exceptional client management skills, with the ability to build trust and provide strategic counsel.

  • Excellent communication skills that allow you to simplify complexities, demonstrate active listening and tell a coherent story verbally and in written form.

  • Strong leadership skills with experience in mentoring and developing teams.

  • Advanced financial and business acumen, including managing budgets, negotiating scopes of work, and optimizing resource allocation.

  • A curious and analytical mindset with an ability to understand and solve complex challenges.

  • High degree of self-motivation and energy with a passion for the industry.

  • Grace under pressure and comfort with ambiguity.

  • Breadth of experience across North America and categories (BevAlc, Retail and Finance an asset).

Reporting Structure: The Group Media Director will report to the EVP, Managing Director. The Media Director and Programmatic Manager will report direct to Group Media Director.
